Reasons to take advantage of early admission

Filed under: college app — lilyc @ 12:23 am

Many high schools, mine included, discourage the early admission process. Why? The stress will cause a student to underperform in class, they say. The chances of being accepted are too low – not worth the effort it takes to complete a college application at least a full month before all other college deadlines. I guess my high school counselor and I will just have to agree to disagree on this one. IMO early application process are fantastic ways to stay on top of things and reduce plenty of stress, because if a person is accepted, he or she can properly enjoy the rest of senior year without dreaming about stacks upon stacks of rejection letters. Also, college essays can be reused later, because there’s really no need to write eight different versions of “elaborate on one extracurricular activity” for each college. So, certain people *cough* Chrys *cough* should really consider just submitting the darned common app in early, especially if they’re DONE ALREADY, and see what happens.

Best of luck <3

A Leopard “Review”

Filed under: apple, tech — lilyc @ 12:15 pm

I trekked over to the mall’s Apple Store yesterday to check out the new Leopard OS. I would’ve gone on Friday, but there would have been people swarming around as if the eighth Harry Potter book were being released. The verdict? I’m very sad to say that I’m a little disappointed. Sure, the new features rocked, and the interface was, as usual, impossibly beautiful. However, I feel that Apple was mainly trying to cater to older users, so did not place as much emphasis on pleasing younger generations of users.

As an example, Time Machine is baller. I squealed like a preteen who had run into Zac Efron when I saw the program. Needless to say I fell in love – until I remembered the hard drive I had already dished out too much money for to back up all my data. The fact that the one major difference between Tiger and Leopard was useless to me was more than a little disappointing. Not to mention that few kids I know will appreciate being able to recover their computer history.

I was also particularly offended by the “parental controls.” By promoting this change, Apple is endorsing parental control over ALL kids’ computer-related activities, regardless of whether or not the Internet is involved. In my eyes that is simply unacceptable. Internet regulation I can understand for safety purposes, but application logging? That’s just going beyond necessary.

These are just two of the many reasons why I’m not particularly pleased with Leopard. I guess I could just use the money I’ve been saving up on a nice iPod Shuffle now…

Testing!

I’m so excited about this blog. Who knows, it might actually take off after my 7 other failed attempts. Props to http://exposay.net/ for inspiring me :)
